She supported her travels by working as a house cleaner for a year. At 66, Zhengzhou, China's Li Dongju has gone on an amazing ride—cycling alone through several countries and continents. With already having pedaled in 12 countries, including Cambodia, France, and Australia, she has decided to continue until she reaches 100.

Age Is Just a Number

Though she is an adventurous one, Dongju has a very difficult time. She speaks Mandarin only and must use translation programs to get her point across. On a shoestring budget, she camps at parks, gas stations, and even cemeteries, or sleeps with strangers who give her a roof over her head

Her Journey So Far

She became hooked on cycling in 2013 after depression consumed her after her divorce. She was adrift until the day she saw a group of cyclists go by in front of her. "I leaned on other people a lot … and felt like a frog in a well" before she turned to cycling, she said.

Well equipped

Will to pursue the sport, she purchased a helmet, and her son gave her an folding mountain bicycle. Her very first big project was to bicycle to Tibet but then had no more than 170 yuan ( ₹1,960) as her savings at that time. After being made redundant from work in her factory producing textiles back in 2002, she has lived from a monthly 3,000 yuan ( ₹34,500) pension since then. She earned money for her trip by cleaning houses for a year before using the money she had saved to start her cycling tour of Southeast Asia with two seasoned cyclists she met on the internet.
